We also recently had a sweet older lady from our church pass away earlier this year. Her family took what they wanted from her house and then told our pastor that if the church wanted to hold a yard sale with the rest of her belongings then the profits cold all go to the children's ministry at church.
As I went to both of these sales, I started thinking about how much of this stuff probably meant a lot to these women at some point in their life and even had a special story or meaning behind when they were bought or given to them. But none of that really matters anymore because our friend from church is in Heaven now and she could care less about the things of this earth and my sweet grandma is waiting for the Lord to call her home and she doesn't remember most of what was at her house now anyways. The Lord spoke to me to not be so concerned about filling up my home with meaningless "junk" that would just end up in someone's garage sale someday.
Matthew 6:20 "But lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor dust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal."
Here are a few of my "earthly treasures" from my grandma:

this is a set of Pyrex nesting mixing bowls probably from the 70's

I forgot to turn this one but this is the handkerchief that was my great grandma's that I carried at my wedding.
And in case you don't believe me about the labels :)

LOVE this post! I remember feeling the exact same way when my granny passed away when I was in highschool. (And she labeled our "treasures" too!) Thanks for sharing :)
Great post sister, you have such a way with words!
It is so true. We do fill our homes and lives with things that mean so much to us and, in the end, they don't matter. When we went through my folks house and things it was amazing how little really mattered to me and my sisters. I have the same set of bowls from my mom's kitchen!
